Naturopathy was first heard by Benedict Lust learning about it around 1900. Schooled in hydrotherapy and other therapeutic therapies in Germanty, Lust was sent to spread the methods he and his father Sebastio Kneipp learned in the United States. Soon after 1905, Lust began and was the director of the American College of Naturopathy in New York, which became the first college of naturopathy in all the USA.

Lust had considerable popularity in the early years, even despite the therapy of naturopathy in the 1930s. Went into decline after penicillin was found. And other healthcare careers deteriorated with it too. The post-war period introduced many modern medicines including antibiotics and corticosteroids that altered our way of thinking at medication.

Although much diminished in the post-war period, naturopathic medicine never stopped entirely. In 1956, when the National College of Naturopathic Medicine first opened in Portland, California, one of the first medical moves moving into practice first. This program became the practice’s first formal academy, providing 4 years of academic training in naturopathy with the intention of reintegrating naturopthic traditions into the conventional culture.
